From realistic to abstract... Laurie paints primarily in acrylics on canvas, as well as with watercolors and oil pastels on paper, and occasionally on fabric. She works in a variety of sizes, from miniatures, to average, to larger pieces up to 5 feet, and more.
“Painting with acrylics is a very sensual experience for me. I love the feel of brushing creamy paint onto springy stretched canvas. I use different techniques for applying paint. Along with brushing it on in a thick paste, I build layers using thin watered down paint, often spraying it on with a mister, to get interesting textures and color combinations. Acrylics dry quickly, which is a challenge at times, but is great for making changes. Wherever my art making adventures take me, I always return to acrylics, my first art love.” ~Laurie Culling
